Follow-up project for climate protection management at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal
The follow-up project for the implementation of the climate protection concept of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences aims to implement the measures defined in the integrated climate protection concept (IKSK). The project comprises a total of 27 prioritized measures from various fields of action such as real estate, energy, mobility, IT infrastructure and adaptation to climate change.
A central element of the project is the continuation of climate protection management, which is responsible for coordinating and implementing the measures and acting as a central point of contact for climate-related issues. The overarching goal is to neutralize the university's emissions in the areas of energy and mobility by 2030 and in all university operations by 2050 at the latest.
Three priority measures illustrate the scope of the project:
- Improvement of the cycling infrastructure on the Herrenkrug campus: This measure is to be implemented by October 2026 and includes removing barriers to cycling in order to promote bicycle traffic.
- Development of a travel policy with sustainability criteria: On June 12, 2024, the Senate adopted the new business travel policy with sustainability criteria. This includes, among other things, incentives for more climate-friendly modes of transport and promotes sustainable mobility options.
- New waste separation system with recycling training stations: This measure aims to optimize waste separation at the university and strengthen awareness of correct sorting. By further developing and introducing suitable waste systems, sorting behavior is to be improved and the share of recyclable materials increased.
The project attaches great importance to the involvement of various stakeholders and accompanying communication measures in order to raise awareness and mobilize the university community for climate protection issues. Regular reviews and adjustments to the concept are planned in order to be able to react to current developments.
